Support to Health Services in Aleppo
Due to the conflict, the Ministry of Health in Damascus has stopped the supply of medical drugs and consumables to many areas. Various NGOs are providing a variety of health services and supplies, including emergency medications, to relieve medical facilities, but there exists a substantial lack of anesthetic drugs, primary health care medications, and consumables for hemodialysis sets.
The project aims to procure and supply a year’s worth of anesthesia drugs, primary health care medications, and consumables for hemodialysis sets. These medications and consumables will be distributed to various health facilities in Aleppo Governorate on a quarterly basis.
Furthermore, hospitals and hemodialysis centers shall be equipped with autoclaves for sanitizing equipment, and primary health care centers (PHCCs) provided with safety boxes for syringes. In particular, the following is expected:
- Three hospitals will be provided with their respective need of anesthesia drugs for 12 months;
- Six PHCCs will be provided with their respective need of primary health care medications for 12 months; and,
- Two hemodialysis centers will be provided with their respective need of consumable kits for 12 months.
The population of 2.5 million people living in the targeted area of Aleppo Governorate will benefit from the availability of specialized medication and consumables at health facilities and the subsequent improvement in treatment of health ailments.
The financing agreement for this project was signed in mid-August 2014, and it is expected to be completed by August 2015. For further information see:
