Finland Contributes an Additional Euro 3 Million to the Resources of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund

Gaziantep – Saturday, 19 December 2015 – The Management Unit of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today that the Republic of Finland has contributed an additional Euro 3 million to the resources of the fund. The contribution was confirmed in a recent letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland to the chair of the SRTF Steering Board.

 

“Finland is proud to be among the very first donors to the SRTF. The Fund has already achieved impressive results in helping the Syrian people and local communities in a very difficult operating environment” says Ms. Kirsikka Lehto-Asikainen, Director of the Unit for Middle-East and North-Africa at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. “The Fund is an important part of the Finnish support to the victims of the Syrian conflict and resilience of the local communities.”

 

Thanking the Government of Finland, the Director-General of the SRTF Management Unit, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, said  “this increased contribution is yet another confirmation of the confidence that donors have in the performance and effectiveness of the SRTF in reaching out to the most in need of the Syrian people inside their country” 

He added that “Finland’s contribution will help conclude a substantial replenishment of the SRTF resources.”

 

Finland is the fifth nation, following the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom to confirm its increased contribution to the fund. The US contributed US$ 15 million while the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK provided Euro 2 million and Euro 1.7 million and Euro 6.27 respectively.

 

Finland had already contributed about Euro 3 million to the initial resources of the SRTF, which reached a total of Euro 90.2 as of 31 December 2014. Besides the US, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Denmark and Finland the other SRTF donor countries are Germany, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Kuwait, France and Italy.
