The SRTF Delivers Electricity Conductors to Aleppo Governorate
Turkey – Sunday, 22 January, 2017 – The SRTF Management Unit today delivered a large quantity of electricity conductors and testing devices under its “Rehabilitation and Expansion of Electricity Grid in a Town of Aleppo Governorate.” The delivery took place at a zero point on the Turkish-Syrian border in coordination with the Turkish authorities.
The delivered materials will help the implementing entity (IE) of the project to carry out essential repair works on the town’s low voltage grid, which was affected by airstrikes that led to burning of many transformers, circuit cutters, cables, aerial conductors, fuses and poles holding the grid.
Worth a total of EUR 1.7 million, the project aims to repair the grid and to expand its outreach in order to meet the consumption needs of a growing population due to the influx of internally displaced persons. The town’s population, which numbered only 15,000 people before the outbreak of the conflict, reached 50,000 people last year. Expanding the grid will also serve neighboring villages. The project will also ensure a continuous maintenance of the grid, which is frequently disrupted due to a lack of spare parts and equipment, leading to prolonged periods of power outage.
