The SRTF Delivers Wheat Hessian Sacks for Food Security Project in Aleppo and Idleb Governorates

Turkey – Monday, 31 July 2017 – The SRTF Management Unit delivered a large quantity of Hessian Sacks to the Implementing Entity (IE), of its "enhancing Food Security of Aleppo and Idleb Governorates” project today.

The delivery took place at a zero point on the Turkish-Syrian.

The delivery, which consisted of 19 trucks carrying about 336,000 hessian sacks will allow the IE, to secure and protect stocks of wheat against external influences such as rain, humidity and insects.

The project aims to reinforce food security in Aleppo and Idleb Governorates and enhance the institutional capacity of the IE so Syrian farmers can improve their local production, storage and marketing.

Overall, the project will have a highly positive impact in terms of creating an environment of confidence for the local farming community regarding cereals’ markets and for the population regarding the availability of reliable supplies of flour to local bakeries. It will also have a stabilizing effect on bread prices to the benefit of some 2 million inhabitants in Aleppo and Idleb Governorate.
