The SRTF Delivers Work Safety Clothes for Solid Waste and Rubble Removal Operations in Quneitra Governorate

Jordan – Thursday, 1 November 2017 – The SRTF Management Unit delivered a large quantity of work safety cloths to the implementing entity (IE) of its “Solid Waste Management and Rubble Removal in Eight Communities in Quneitra Governorate” project today. The delivery included 4055 pieces of winter and summer uniforms, shoes, hats, gloves, vests, jackets and rain coats for cleaning workers, maintenance workers, drivers and watchmen It also contained 12,500 cotton masks. The goods were purchased internally from the local markets in Syria.

The new delivery follows extensive repair and maintenance works carried out last June on heavy machinery and equipment for use in solid waste and rubble removal activities in Quneitra Governorate. Working in close coordination with local councils, the IE of the project has put into operation four repaired tractors and wagons using spare parts provided by the project for one year.

The project aims to address the lack of machinery to remove piles of debris and solid waste that have accumulated along roads and squares of townships during the conflict, prevent environmental pollution and ensure proper landfill waste management.

At a total cost of approximately EUR 3.2 million, the project is expected to improve pest control and prevent epidemics caused by pests, improve public health by decreasing the prevalence of diseases, such as leishmaniosis, and preventing the outbreak of diseases like cholera, using proper sanitation practices. It will also create job opportunities and will directly benefit about 157.400 inhabitants of the targeted areas.
