The SRTF Delivers Wheat and Fertilizers for its “Agricultural Support to Farmers” Intervention in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Ar-Raqqa– Saturday, 20 August 2018 -The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today the completion of distribution of first lot of wheat seed and fertilizer part of the “Agricultural Support to Farmers – Phase I” intervention under the SRTF’s “Filling the Void” stabilization efforts.

 

The first lot included, 28 metric tons of wheat seed and 28 metric tons of fertilizer distributed to farmers that are farming some 130 hectares. The SRTF support to area farmers is a vital contribution to restore crop production and support critical livelihood activities. In September, the SRTF is planning to distribute the second lot, which will consist of 56 metric tons of fertilizers and 56 metric tons of wheat seeds, the second lot will benefit farmers who are farming some 250 hectares. The SRTF will provide additional deliveries including herbicides, pesticides other necessary inputs to protect the upcoming winter planting season.

 

At a total cost of 4.1 million EUR, this activity targets 2100 farmers and their families cultivating approximately 2500 hectares of land in three rural communities northeast of Ar-Raqqa City in the irrigated basin. The activity is part of the wider “Filling the Void” program currently being implemented by the SRTF. Through rapid assistance to critical sectors, the intervention provides immediate relief and stabilization to Syrians living in areas liberated from Daesh.
