The SRTF Launches a New Sector in “Solid Waste Management” Under its Stabilization Programme with a Debut in Deir Az-zor Province

Deir Ez-zor - Wednesday, 26 June 2019- The SRTF introduced a new sector under its Stabilization efforts today after being granted approval by its management committee (MC) to launch its first “Solid Waste Management” intervention in Deir Ez-zor province. With this newest addition: “Provision of Solid Waste Management Services in Deir Ez-zor – Phase I” the SRTF’s total “Filling the Void” approved stabilization interventions stand at 8 with a total allocated budget of EUR 34 million.

 

Phase I of the newly approved intervention will focus on solid waste clearance and debris removal from 34 damaged schools, 5 destroyed water towers’ sites, public spaces, and roads across 15 villages. It will include conducting a comprehensive needs assessment of the waste situation and requirements in Deir Ez-zor province.   A total of 14,800 students and school staff will be directly impacted by these activities, and up to 200,000 people will benefit from waste and ruble removal and work opportunities in eastern Deir Ez-zor.

 

The SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, hailed this new update expressing great pride: “The SRTF is very proud to debut work in Deir Ez-zor province and to know that our steady Stabilization efforts are advancing, albeit all challenges, and making a real difference in Syrian people’s lives.”
