The SRTF Delivers Fire Extinguishers in Support of Food Security Interventions in Aleppo Governorate

Turkey – Saturday, 31 Aug 2019 - The SRTF Management Unit (MU) announced today the delivery of 55 fire extinguishers to the implementing entity (IE) of the SRTF’s project: “Complementary Project for Enhancing Food Security in the North of Aleppo Governorate – Phase II.”

The fire extinguishers will be placed next to stored wheat heaps to be used in case of accidental fires which can happen due to the extreme weather conditions or human error. The delivery complements other inputs provided by the MU under this project, which aim to improve food security in the north of Aleppo.

At a total cost of EUR 6.2 million, this intervention will have a significant impact on the lives of all people in the project area. An expected 175,000 persons will benefit each month from the increased production of bread. Furthermore, the project will generate employment opportunities in the transport, service, and production industries for over 2,000 people in the targeted areas. The project will also help sustain existing livestock populations through the availability of bran, a byproduct of wheat milling, as animal feed.
