The SRTF Management Committee Approves Phase II of "Provision of Caravan Clinics and Clean Water Supply for Rural Communities” in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Prague- Saturday, 21st September, 2019 - The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) ended its 22nd regular Management Committee (MC) meeting held in Prague with the approval of three new projects, of which one is Phase II of its current: "Provision of PHC Services and Clean Water Supply for Rural Communities – Phase I” in Ar-Raqqa governorate. The latest project brings the number of approved stabilization activities under “Filling the Void” to nine projects with total budget of EUR 37,8 million.

The latest intervention comes at a total of EUR 3.7 million and backed up with the great success witnessed in the ongoing Phase I whereby 3 of the latter’s Public Healthcare Center (PHC) were successfully able to serve approximately 25,000 beneficiaries within three months of their inauguration early July 2019.

The newly approved intervention, Phase II will provide primary health and WASH services to seven communities in Ar-Raqqa Governorate. Activity implementation will focus on setting up four fixed caravans health clinics in four new communities and provide clean potable water to targeted communities across Ar-Raqqa sub-district.  Moreover, within its second phase, the project will carry out solid waste management activities and implement hygiene campaigns. Phase II will support and maintain the already established three PHCs and ambulances in the three communities currently operational under Phase I.

Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz commented on Phase II of the project and said: “We are proud to launch Phase II of this project knowing it will secure vital health and wash services to a larger number of communities in Ar-Raqqa. Phase II builds on the great success of Phase I which has spread hope in the targeted communities.”  

At a total worth EUR 3,7 million and an expected duration of 6 months, Phase II is expected to benefit 11,334 households in seven communities and in its entirety will benefit 68,000 persons; increasing health and WASH services to the civilians recovering from the destruction caused during the conflict with Daesh.
