The SRTF Management Committee Approves a Second Phase Project of Medical Emergency Services in Aleppo Governorate

Gaziantep - Monday, 19 October 2015 - The SRTF Management Committee has approved a new intervention to support medical emergency services in Aleppo today. The “Support to the Medical Emergency Response Department of Aleppo Health Directorate – Phase-II” project aims to procure and supply required spare parts for essential repairs and regular maintenance works for the department’s 28 working ambulances as well as replacement of its three destroyed ambulances by new ones.

Worth a total of Euro 457,000, the project will provide office assets for the restored locations of the department and will strengthen its team to meet operational maintenance demand and to provide faster emergency services. This will help transport more patients in a timely manner reducing life losses during the current conflict. Strengthening the department’s team and the improved availability of operational ambulances will rescue some 400 patients per month. With such improved capacity the department will be able to provide an efficient emergency medical responseto the entire population, estimated at 1.5 million, residing in the project's selected areas in Aleppo governorate.

In its earlier intervention (Phase-I) last year, the SRTF had procured and supplied the city with 15 new ambulances to help substitute destroyed ambulances; thus, helping resume, at the time, a desperately needed emergency transportation services in Aleppo.
