Kuwait Offers USD 12 Million as an Additional Contribution to the Resources of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund
Gaziantep – Friday, 27 May 2016 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced today that Kuwait has contributed an additional USD 12 million to the resources of the fund. The contribution was announced by Mr Marwan Al Ghanem, Director of Operations of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, during the Steering Board Meeting held in Berlin, Germany, on 25 May 2016.
Mr Al Ghanem stated that “Kuwait's decision to extend an additional contribution was firmly grounded upon the interventions and resounding success of the SRTF in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people inside Syria.”
The SRTF's Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, welcomed Kuwait’s additional contribution as “yet another generous gesture of support towards the people of Syria.” He thanked the State of Kuwait, adding that its contributions “express confidence in the Fund’s ability to manage its resources transparently and successfully.” Eng. Khabbaz explained that: “Kuwait’s second contribution, along with those of other donor countries, will enable the SRTF to develop more recovery projects that will help reduce the suffering of the Syrian people inside Syria.” He underlined the importance of Kuwait’s role as an Arab donor, along that of the United Arab Emirates, in showing Arab solidarity with the Syrian people. He said: “hundreds of thousands of Syrians are already benefiting from the Fund’s interventions and many more will benefit thanks to the continuing support of these donor countries.”
Kuwait is the ninth donor, following the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, Germany, and Japan, to confirm its increased contribution to the fund. These additional contributions bring the total amount of SRTF resources to Euro 157.4 million.
