The SRTF Delivers Ten Tractors to Aleppo and Hama Governorates for Solid Waste Removal

Turkey – Friday, 4 November 2016 – The SRTF Management Unit today delivered ten tractors of various capacities for the removal of debris and solid waste in twenty communities located in the governorates of Aleppo and Hama. The delivery took place at a zero point on the Turkish-Syrian border in coordination with the Turkish authorities.

Six of the tractors were delivered under the “Solid Waste Management and Rubble Removal in 10 Communities of Hama Governorate” project. Worth a total of EUR 2.16 million the project seeks to address the lack of machinery to remove piles of debris and solid waste that have accumulated along roads and squares of townships during the conflict; thus, exasperating the already precarious hygiene and public health conditions. Almost 105,000 people will benefit from the project directly.

Under the “Solid Waste Management in 10 Communities of Aleppo Governorate” project four tractors were delivered. Worth approximately EUR 1.75 million, the project aims to improve life quality for some 80,000 local inhabitants of the target areas by enhancing the solid waste management sector and addressing the related health issues.
