The SRTF Supports Training of Syrian Specialists on Installation and Maintenance of Flour Mills
Turkey – Wednesday, 24 November 2016 – A team of specialists from the implementing entity (IE) ended a three-day training course on installation and maintenance of flour mills in Turkey today. The training is part of the SRTF “Enhancing Food Security of Aleppo and Idleb Governorates” project, which aims to address the challenges facing the two governorates in terms of food security at present. The training will ensure the continued supply of much flour to meet the main staple’s consumption needs.
At a total cost of EUR 13.7 million, the project seeks to ensure the availability of bread for the local population, indirectly benefiting over 2 million people. For this purpose, it is importing soft wheat and purchasing locally-grown hard wheat. The two types of wheat are needed for the formula of producing the appropriate flour mix that is used by bakeries to produce the traditional Syrian bread. The project also imports hessian sacks for transportation of the commodity inside Syria and provides milling facilities and other support mechanisms for local bakeries.
