The SRTF Management Committee Approves a EUR 3.7 Million Project to Support the Recovery of Livestock Production in Northern Aleppo Governorate
Amman – Wednesday, 13 February 2019 – The SRTF announced the approval of a new project to "Supporting the Recovery of Livestock Production in Northern Aleppo Governorate" today. The project will support the Implementing Entity (IE) in addressing the needs of the livestock sector and contribute the agricultural economy in northern Aleppo.
At a total cost of EUR 3.7 million, and applying an integrated livestock support approach improve access to feed with introduction of a feed supplementation component and a separate alfalfa and barley cultivation component, introduce a vaccination campaign on preventive basis to mitigate against spread of livestock diseases, ensure sufficient availability of water for herds, through the use of tractor towed water tank trailers, and improve fodder crops cultivation and production levels through an alfalfa and barley component.
The project will ensure the procurement of fixed and consumable assets for the project in order to rehabilitate and revitalize the fragile livestock sector, moreover, it will include services that improve capacities of IE and partners, including a 12-month force account payment for staff salaries active in the implementation of the project; rental fees for warehouses for the storage of inputs, and funds for the rehabilitation of the main IE warehouse.
Over a 26 months implementation period, the project is expected to improve the living conditions of an estimated 20,300 livestock farmers, strengthen the economic situations of the rural poor, and improve the broader food security situation in the target areas. restore confidence in the livestock sector in the targeted communities.
