The SRTF Delivers a Variety of Onion Seeds and Potato Tubers to its Agriculture Project in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Monday, 17 January 2022- The SRTF delivered 3000 kg of selected onion seeds varieties and 46 out of 250 tons of Alegria potato tubers to its implementing entity (IE) under its project: "Agricultural Support to Farmers in Northern Aleppo". The remaining quantity of potato tubers is expected to be delivered within two weeks.

Both shipments of onion seeds and potato tubers are selected to be suitable and adaptable to the soil and the environment in the targeted areas to ensure planting success. The potato tubers will be stored in the IE cold storage waiting to complete the delivery to distribute them to the farmers.  Notably, the later will be distributed to 420 farmers, an average of 600 kg per farmer.

With a total budget of EUR 2.4 million, the project promotes food security by supporting 1,500 self-managed, economically viable crop farms that have access to local markets, suppliers, and relevant business service providers.  At least 7,500 households will benefit from improved access to agricultural inputs from the project while indirectly, around 37,500 beneficiaries will benefit from the project.
