The SRTF Announces the Successful Completion of the Second Phase of an Electricity Intervention in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Ar-Raqqa - Sunday, 3 July 2022- The SRTF announced the successful completion of its electricity intervention: “Rehabilitation of Power Transformer Centres in Raqqa City - Phase II”. The second phase aimed to rehabilitate 14 electrical transformer stations, as well as rehabilitate the low voltage distribution network. These rehabilitation works would provide electricity to critical facilities and institutions such as one bus station, a stadium, a sports facility, several schools, organizations, one Hospital, and one fuel station that will, in return, revive the targeted neighbourhood and deliver essential services to its citizens.

The rehabilitation of the transformer centres and the low voltage network supported the aforementioned facilities and organizations to increase the level of their operation to full capacity.  The electricity supply in the area was significantly enhanced and important public and private services started to increase the level and the hours of their operations and thereby provided the residents of the area with more reliable services. 

More specifically, this intervention created better conditions for education in the schools in the targeted neighbourhood; it allowed more reliable health service provision at one Hospital that serves the entire city of Raqqa and the Furat region. Moreover, services at one supported fuel station were significantly improved which in turn was allowed it to provide reliable and accessible fuel services for private transportation. And finally, the operations of the bus station which facilitates the travel between Raqqa City and its surrounding as well as activities at the sports facilities were reactivated- all to the benefit of more than 30,000 residents and IDPs whose living conditions were significantly enhanced as a result.

The EUR 1.5 million intervention completed its activities with a EUR 350,494 surplus which will be returned into the FtV budget.
