An SRTF Agriculture Project Completes the Distribution of 1,000 MT Wheat Seeds to Farmers in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Wednesday, 11 January 2023 – The SRTF announced that it has successfully completed the distribution of the planned 1,000MT of four varieties of local wheat seeds to 2,000 farmers under its Agriculture project, “Support Farmers for the Production of Wheat and Vegetable Crops in Northern Aleppo”, today.

This project aims to support the cultivation of 4,000 hectares of land by 2,000 wheat farmers, producing a total of 12,000 MT-15,000 MT of wheat by the end of the project’s life cycle, thereby, increasing productivity by also improving the quality of soil through the use of better fertilisers.

Other types of vegetable seeds as well as agrochemicals and plastic greenhouses among other agricultural inputs, are also provided to farmers to expand their crop production following the training sessions they will attend on the rehabilitation of the agriculture sector throughout the project’s life cycle. This would in turn contribute to the wider aim of the project of enhancing food security in the region.

Abdulrazaq, a 55-year-old farmer beneficiary, told us: “Through this support, the Fund has provided us with the necessary agricultural inputs, including soil, seeds and equipment. The challenges that used to face us revolved around the shortage of such inputs, which thankfully we do not face any more.”

With a budget of EUR 3 million, this project will directly benefit 4,000 farmers as well as their 20,000 family members, over a period of 18 months which includes six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation. Furthermore, around 95,000 individuals will benefit on a monthly basis throughout the project’s life cycle, through the milling of the harvested wheat. As a result, this will contribute to reducing poverty and unemployment in the targeted areas, while simultaneously ensuring farmers are self-reliant and sustained through long-term crop production.
