Emergency Response Plan Phase II Provides EUR 4 Million Boost to the SRTF Food Security Project in Northern Aleppo
Türkiye – Thursday, 2 March 2023 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the allocation of an additional EUR 4 million to Phase II of its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) issued to support food security.
The recent earthquake that affected Northern Aleppo has caused an increase in demand for flour, putting additional strain on an already vulnerable food security sector. The additional funds will ensure the continuity of wheat milling for bread production and ensure that more people, especially those affected by the earthquake have access to it. The newly allocated funds will be utilised to purchase 8,000 MT of imported soft wheat, which will assist in meeting the demand for bread in the region.
Eng. Hani Khabbaz, the Director General of the SRTF, stated: “The SRTF is dedicated to addressing the rising need for bread following the devastating earthquake. We have always been committed to enhancing food security in the region, particularly during these challenging times. The additional EUR 4M increases the SRTF’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) budget to around EUR 9 million. ” Khabbaz expressed gratitude to the SRTF donors and members for the prompt response and support of the ERP.
