The SRTF Management Committee (MC) Approves Five New Projects and Interventions under the Health and Agriculture Sectors
Frankfurt – Thursday, June 22, 2023 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund’s (SRTF’s) Management Committee (MC) held its 34th meeting in Frankfurt, Germany.
The MC members reviewed operational updates and made a number of decisions including the approval of four new Health interventions in Northeast Syria for a budget of EUR 5.56 million and one Recovery project in the agriculture sector for a total budget of EUR 2.07 million bringing the total budget for the approved projects to EUR 245.2 million. The approved projects aim to further improve two key sectors: Agriculture and Health sectors in Northern Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates.
The four Health interventions include; firstly, “Support to One Primary Health Care Centre and Two Dialysis Units in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase II” which has a budget of around EUR 570,000, aiming to fill the gaps in medication and medical consumables in order to improve the quality of health services provided in these facilities. Secondly, “Supporting Health Services in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase VI” with a budget of EUR 2.1 million, which aims to improve the living conditions and well-being of internally displaced people (IDPs) and members of host communities by increasing their access to essential healthcare services in Ar-Raqqa. Thirdly, “Primary Health Care for Conflict-Affected Populations in Deir-ez-Zor – Phase III”, which has a budget of around EUR 997,000, aims to enhance conflict-affected Syrians’ accessibility to health care through the provision of primary health services, medical consumables and medication as well as improving the capacity of health workers to ensure the provision of consultation and procedures in optimum quality. Finally, “Provision of Maternity and Paediatric Health Services at One Hospital in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate – Phase II”, with a budget of around EUR 1.9 million, similarly aims to increase individuals’ access to improved basic and essential services at a hospital in Deir-ez-Zor.
The newly approved Agriculture project, “Support Farmers for the Production of Wheat Crop in North Aleppo”, aims to provide farmers with agricultural inputs as well as capacity building on agronomic and mechanisation practices, in order to revitalise wheat production and improve food security as well as the livelihoods of communities across the region, with a budget of around EUR 2.07 million.
The SRTF’s Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, briefed members of the MC highlighting the latest operational accomplishments on the ground as well as the positive impact on beneficiaries across Northeast Syria and Northern Aleppo.
In a statement, he said: “After a decade of remarkable accomplishments, I am delighted to announce that we have received approvals for five new projects and interventions. Among them, four projects build upon the success of our much-needed interventions in the health sector, while the fifth one aims to provide essential support to farmers in the Northern Aleppo region, specifically targeting the production of wheat crops under the Agriculture sector."
