Farmers Reap an Abundant Harvest of Various Vegetables Under an SRTF Agriculture Project in Northern Aleppo
Türkiye – Thursday, 9 November 2023 – The SRTF announced the harvest of 20,974 MT of a variety of vegetables by 2,000 vegetable farmers under its Agriculture project, “Support Farmers for the Production of Wheat and Vegetable Crops in Northern Aleppo”.
Following the provision of wheat and vegetable seeds, agrochemicals amongst other various agricultural inputs as well as training sessions for wheat and vegetable farmers, vegetable farmers planted their land with zucchini, beans, eggplant, cucumber, tomato, and sweet and chili pepper, yielding around 737 MT, 515 MT, 2,780 MT, 2,755 MT, 11,117 MT and 3,070 MT respectively.
The overall aim of this project is to rehabilitate wheat and vegetable crop production in Northern Aleppo. The provision of support and inputs coupled with the delivery of relevant training sessions will improve food security in the region, ensure the sustainability of crop production, and increase the availability of produce across local markets, enabling farmers to improve their living conditions, as unemployment rates in the area are reduced as well.
This project directly benefits 4,000 farmers, including 2,000 vegetable farmers and 2,000 wheat farmers, as well as their 20,000 family members, with a budget of EUR 3 million and throughout a period of 18 months (which includes six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation). Around 95,000 other individuals will benefit on a monthly basis through the milling of the harvested wheat as their access to bread is increased.
