The SRTF Inaugurates Seven Water Pumping Stations Powered by a Renewable Solar Energy System in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Thursday, 9 November 2023 –The SRTF and the Syrian Interim Government inaugurated renewable solar energy plants to supply seven water pumping stations under the Electricity project: "Sustainable Solar Energy Supply Systems for Water Pumping Stations in Rural Areas of North Aleppo – Phase I”.

Following the completion of construction works, the new systems were installed and commissioned. The seven water pumping stations are now fully operational, powered by sustainable and renewable solar energy systems, ensuring a consistent supply of around 6,000 kWh per day of electric energy to the water stations. This will guarantee a more affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly source of electricity as well as a consistent supply of water to vulnerable communities in Northern Aleppo countryside.

Furthermore, in the long run, this will decrease the running costs of the supply of electricity for the water pumping stations, will result in a positive impact on the surrounding environment given the zero-carbon dioxide emission system, improve the quality and availability of potable water, and will also strengthen the resilience and improve the living conditions of community members struggling with the lack of available water sources.

The SRTF’s Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, expressed his pride saying: “We are proud to witness the launch of sustainable energy solutions and improved water access to the communities in Northern Aleppo Countryside. This initiative marks a significant step towards resilience, sustainability, and improved livelihoods for those in need."

This project has a budget of EUR 1.8 million and will directly benefit around 165,000 individuals, including internally displaced people, and 85,000 individuals indirectly, over 18 months, including six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation.
