An SRTF Food Security Project Delivers its First Batch of Dry Yeast in Northern Aleppo
Türkiye – Monday, 27 November 2023 – The SRTF announced the delivery of the first batch of dry yeast of 27.70 MT (out of the procured amount of 100 MT), to the Implementing Entity (IE), under its Food Security project, “Complementary Project for Enhancing Food Security in the North of Aleppo Governorate – Phase VI”.
The dry yeast will be distributed to IE-supported bakeries to facilitate bread production. The remaining amount of dry yeast will continue to be delivered throughout the project’s lifecycle, along with other necessary bakery equipment, to meet the overall aim of this project, which is to guarantee the continuity of wheat milling to increase bread production and individuals’ access to good quality bread at affordable prices.
This project has a budget of EUR 8.4 million and is expected to directly benefit an average of 250,000 individuals per month over its lifecycle of 18 months. In response to the earthquake that hit earlier this year, an additional budget of EUR 4 million was approved under an Emergency Response Plan, increasing the total budget of this project to EUR 12.4 million, enabling a wider reach and greater food security in the region.
