Boost in Wheat Yield: An Agriculture Project Achieves Remarkable Results in Northern Aleppo
Türkiye - Sunday, 14 July 2024 - The SRTF announced this year’s average wheat yield of around 3.6 MT per hectare (HA), following the completion of harvest activities under its Agriculture project, “Support Farmers for the Production of Wheat Crop in North Aleppo”.
A total of 994 out of the targeted 1,000 wheat farmers harvested a total of 1,967 HA of land, yielding around 7,151 MT of wheat, in five locations across Northern Aleppo.
This follows the provision of wheat seeds and agricultural inputs, including agrochemicals, as well as the delivery of training sessions to farmers, contributing to the aim of the project of revitalising wheat production, improving farmers’ livelihoods and enhancing food security in the region.
The SRTF Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, stated: "I am delighted by this year's excellent wheat yield, marking yet another significant achievement for farmers in Northern Aleppo. The SRTF remains steadfast in its commitment to investing in the agriculture sector, which is crucial and one of the main sources of income for Syrians. We are thrilled to witness the enhancement of these farmers' livelihoods and look forward to seeing the sustainable impact of this project and the improvement in regional food security."
This project has a budget of EUR 2.07 million and has benefitted around 1,000 farmers directly and their 5,000 family members indirectly over a period of 18 months, which includes six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation. Around 45,000 individuals per month are also expected to benefit from increased bread production resulting from the increased amounts of wheat.
