The SRTF Potato Harvest in Northeast Syria Yields 3,247 MT, Boosting Local Economy, Stability and Hope

Northeast Syria – Tuesday, 13 August 2024 – The SRTF is thrilled to announce the average potato yield of 30.5 metric tonnes (MT) per hectare (HA) in Northeast Syria, under its Agriculture intervention, “Supporting Potato Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates”, following the end of the harvest season.

A total of 502 farmers cultivated a total of around 106 HA of land, across 13 communities in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates, resulting in an estimated total harvest of 3,247 MT of potatoes.

This follows the provision of agriculture inputs including high-quality potato tubers, agrochemcials, fertilisers and personal protective equipment, to farmers throughout the intervention’s lifecycle, in addition to the delivery of training sessions to farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture, which aided in advancing potato production.

Moreover, this harvest will contribute to the overall objective of the intervention, of increasing farmers’ income and improving their living conditions through such job opportunities, enhancing regional food security and promoting stability within these communities.

With a budget of around EUR 943,800, this intervention has directly benefitted 502 farmers directly and their family members indirectly over a period of eight months.
