An SRTF Agriculture Project Successfully Concludes, Elevating Potato Farming and Local Prosperity
Türkiye – Wednesday, 30 October 2024 - The SRTF announces the successful closure and completion of its Agriculture project; “Support to Potato Producers in North Aleppo”.
Under this project, various agricultural inputs, machinery and equipment, were delivered, to facilitate the planting and harvesting of potatoes. Sheds were also built to store and protect the equipment and machinery. Additionally, job opportunities were created enabling field workers and graduates in agronomy and agriculture mechanisation to earn an income and improve their livelihoods.
Such efforts, in combination with the delivery of advisory services and training sessions to farmers, contributed to the overall aim of the project of improving cultivation practices, enhancing potato production and quality and increasing the overall yield, thereby, increasing the availability of potatoes in local markets. This will in turn improve their livelihoods and food security in the area in the long run.
In fact, in one survey 75% of beneficiary respondents stated that the project “helped maintain their business and increase profit”, 67% stated that it “empowered them through dignified access to services” and others reported an increase in stability in their access to local markets.
With a budget of around 1 million Euros, this project directly benefitted 836 potato farmers and their 6,688 family members indirectly, exceeding the original target, over a period of 35 months.
