An SRTF Health Intervention is Announced Completed in Deir-ez-Zor, Northeast Syria
Northeast Syria – Wednesday, 6 November 2024 – The SRTF is pleased to announce the successful closure and completion of Phase II of its Health intervention “Provision of Primary Health Care Services in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate”.
Two primary health care centres (PHCCs) and one mobile clinic that were established in Phase I, were supported under this phase of the intervention, with medication, medical consumables and medical equipment, allowing for the provision of essential services including paediatric, reproductive health, prevention and control of communicable diseases, treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCD), mental health, dental and oral health, community health, nutrition, laboratory, pharmaceutical and ambulance services. Additionally, 45 NCD kits were provided to 15 health facilities across Deir-ez-Zor.
Not only has this intervention contributed to improving the overall health conditions within the areas of implementation by increasing people’s access to improved health care services, but it has also contributed to the local economy by creating job opportunities and revitalising the market. This has helped and will continue to help sustain economic recovery in the region, while also ensuring long-term stability and recovery.
In fact, a male patient told the SRTF; “Providing medical services in my area helps to stabilise the situation, in light of the current conditions, the insecurity and the inability to go outside the village at night.”
A female patient at one of the PHCCs told us; “We are all treated in the health facility, its reputation is good. People benefitted especially since there are no doctors and public transportation is rare in our area. The health facility provided us with excellent services.”
Another female patient at a PHCC told us; “The health facility gives us a sense of safety and stability, and we can treat our children in the village without costs. Previously, my husband had to leave his work to take our children to another village which would cost us transportation in addition to the medical expenses, but now, the situation is much better.”
With a budget of around EUR 1.8 million, this intervention benefitted 158,933 patients directly and 359,128 individuals indirectly across Deir-ez-Zor, during its 12-month lifecycle.
