Successful Completion of a Healthcare Project in Northern Aleppo: Transforming Lives in Underserved Communities

Türkiye – Tuesday, 7 January 2025 – The SRTF is proud to announce the successful completion of a vital healthcare project in Northern Aleppo, significantly enhancing medical services for underserved communities. With a total actual budget of around EUR 4  million, the project addressed critical gaps in healthcare delivery, benefiting over 201,686 patients.

The project established a burn treatment centre and a COVID-19 case management centre, introduced epidemiological surveillance, and provided essential medical supplies to healthcare facilities. It also focused on equitable healthcare access by tailoring services for both men and women, incorporating gender-sensitive approaches to create inclusive and safe care environments, and delivering mobile healthcare to remote areas, especially for internally displaced persons and low-income families.

The project's resources were rapidly redirected to earthquake response efforts in early 2023, placing significant strain on the original budgets and necessitating an additional EUR 1.5 million to secure essential medical supplies and extend staffing.

Through the project, thousands of patients received specialised care, including 2,520 reconstructive surgeries, 1,922 orthopaedic surgeries and 175,336 patients also received medications, alongside the performance of 19,170 COVID-19 laboratory tests. Beneficiaries shared moving testimonials about how the project restored their health and dignity through providing accessible, high-quality healthcare. They noted significant improvements in their physical and mental health, as reflected in the following testimonials:

“I was finally able to undergo surgery after a year of being on waiting lists elsewhere. The friendly staff and quality treatment restored my trust in healthcare.” — Male beneficiary, Mare’ Hospital.

Because it is free, it helped us receive treatment and restore stability to the family again.’

A female beneficiary, Shamarin

The psycho-social support I received after a traumatic incident helped me regain confidence and stability. The services here are life-changing.” — Female beneficiary, Mare’ Hospital.

Moving forward, activities will transition to the next phase under "Support to Health Services in Northern Aleppo Countryside – Phase IV," ensuring the continuation of this transformative work.
