The Syria Recovery Trust Fund Celebrates a Landmark Year of Achievements Amid Syria’s Liberation

Amman – Monday, 17 February 2025 The year 2024 has been a milestone for the SRTF, concluding on an unprecedented high note with the collapse of the Assad regime and the dawn of a new era for Syria. Amid the sweeping changes, the SRTF continued to stand out as one of the few organisations that, even during the most challenging years of conflict, operated effectively throughout the live crisis—rapidly adapting and delivering critical results to help alleviate suffering while establishing itself as a uniquely positioned Syrian-led entity with a deep-rooted presence on the ground.

By the end of 2024, the SRTF had received a total of EUR 25.16 million in fresh contributions from the Netherlands, Japan, Denmark, the United States, and Germany. Over the course of the year, the Fund worked on the delivery of around 37 active projects during 2024, including 11 that were approved this year, while nine were successfully completed and closed.

Such efforts enabled the SRTF to reach over 880,000 individuals in Northern Aleppo and Northeast Syria in key sectors including Agriculture, Food Security, WASH, Electricity, Health, and Livelihoods. The Fund’s direct support has benefitted at least 9,600 farmers through agricultural inputs and training, 234,000 people in the Electricity sector, and 188,000 individuals per month through improved food security. In the Health sector, over 429,000 patients received essential medical services, while more than 20,000 individuals accessed livelihood and shelter support and access to finance opportunities, primarily through the Revolving Credit Fund (RCF).

Since its inception in 2013, the SRTF has launched approximately 130 projects across Syria. To date, these projects have directly benefitted around 16 million Syrians in approximately 400 communities, restoring electricity, water, and sanitation services; rehabilitating schools and healthcare facilities; improving agricultural productivity; and strengthening livelihoods.

The Director General (DG) of the SRTF, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, praised the exceptional achievements of 2024: “Witnessing the liberation of Syria at the end of 2024 has reinforced the SRTF’s purpose in bringing essential services to the Syrian people. Our longstanding presence in the country has enabled us to continue operating under the most difficult circumstances, and now, in this new and more hopeful era, we are better positioned to expand our reach. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our teams. As the Syrian people embrace their freedom, we remain steadfast in planning impactful operations to address emerging needs, aiming for a brighter future for Syria.”

The SRTF’s robust governance structure, transparent reporting, low overhead costs, and proven impact make it a trusted vehicle for donors. At this critical juncture, the Fund reiterates the urgent need for intensified international support to guide Syria towards a stable and sustainable recovery.
