Another Milestone Achieved: A Multi-Phased Agriculture Project in Ar-Raqqa Concludes after Empowering Farmers and Strengthening Local Economy

Northeast Syria – Thursday, 20 March 2025 – The SRTF is thrilled to announce the successful completion and closure of, "Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase VII".

A total of 660 farmers, directly benefitted from this initiative. They received 412 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat seeds, 161 MT of NPK fertilisers, and 660 kits of personal protective equipment and knapsack sprayers. Additionally, three Farmers' Cooperatives were provided with five tractors and three sets of agricultural implement packages, complete with spare parts, to further support their collective efforts. These farmers also gained access to agricultural mechanisation services within their Cooperatives and participated in training sessions focused on best practices, Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), as well as land and soil management.

Khalil, a farmer beneficiary, shared: “Without the support we received—such as seeds, fertilizers, and other essential agricultural inputs—we would have been forced to sell or rent our land or take on debt just to survive. This assistance allowed us to keep our land and continue farming.

Despite ongoing challenges like fuel shortages for machinery, the need for more fertilizers, and maintenance for malfunctioning irrigation systems, we remain hopeful that the SRTF will continue to support us.”

Phase VIII continues to contribute to such objectives through the implementation of similar activities and the provision of such services across Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor governorates.

With a budget of EUR 923,50 such efforts directly benefitted 660 farmers over a period of eight months with a total amount of EUR 1.7 Million from the original budget to be released into the Stabilsation programme . Thousands of other community members continue to benefit from rising food security levels and the reactivation of the local economy.
