Farmers in Northeast Syria Prepare for the Upcoming Potato Farming Season
Northeast Syria – Sunday, 23 March 2025 – With the upcoming potato farming season approaching, 1,000 farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor are gearing up for cultivation with essential support from the SRTF. To aid their efforts, they have received 400 metric tonnes (MT) of high-quality potato tubers and 400,000 mesh bags for packing their harvest.
As part of this initiative, farmers will also gain access to vital agricultural inputs, including agrochemicals, personal protective equipment, pesticides, and fungicides. Some will also receive water-saving drip irrigation systems to enhance efficiency. Additionally, training sessions on best cultivation practices and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) will equip farmers with the knowledge to optimise their yield.
With a budget of EUR 2.29 million, this initiative directly benefits these farmers and indirectly supports their families by improving potato yields, strengthening the local economy, stabilising communities, and increasing household resilience.
