The SRTF Expands Healthcare Services in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor with a Second-Phase Intervention
Damascus – Saturday, 5 April 2025 – The SRTF has recently approved the launch of Phase II of its “Supporting Health Services in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor Governorates” intervention. This initiative comes in response to the escalating need in Northeast Syria (NES), where access to healthcare is critically limited due to non-functional facilities, funding shortages, and high demand.
The SRTF's second-phase healthcare intervention will enhance medical services in both Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa Governorates. In Deir-ez-Zor, support will expand the only free hospital serving over 327,400 people, establishing a 24/7 emergency department, paediatric and gynaecology clinics, a maternal care ward with an operating theatre, and malnutrition screening for children and pregnant women. The hospital will also offer inpatient paediatric care, neonatal services, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy support, alongside a cost-sharing pilot for select non-life-saving services. In Ar-Raqqa, the intervention will strengthen seven Primary Healthcare Centres and the ICU of Ar-Raqqa National Hospital, providing outpatient consultations, emergency obstetric and neonatal care, malnutrition screening, a structured referral system, and operational support for critical care services.
The 10-month intervention, with a EUR 1.6 million budget, aims to provide 147,756 medical consultations to 70,980 direct beneficiaries. Specifically, 30,080 individuals in Deir-ez-Zor and 40,900 in Ar-Raqqa will receive life-saving healthcare services. Indirect beneficiaries, including household members of direct patients, are estimated at 354,900 individuals.
By strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring free-of-charge essential medical services, this intervention will enhance access to quality healthcare for vulnerable communities, contributing to improved resilience and long-term well-being in conflict-affected areas.
