Mechanization and Training Centers for Agricultural Equipment in Ar Raqqa – Phase II
Following the success of the first phase of this intervention, “Mechanization and Training Centers for Agricultural Equipment in Ar-Raqqa – Phase I”, the second phase, “Mechanization and Training Centers for Agricultural Equipment in Ar-Raqqa – Phase II” will introduce technical advisory services to farmer cooperatives (coops) in eight villages around Ar-Raqqa. This intervention will provide operational and management support to the coops for the efficient and safe use of all the agricultural machinery supplied by SRTF and will introduce training workshops for selected members of the coop communities in field mechanization practices.
In order to obtain the main objectives of this intervention, the implementing entity (IE) proposed the following activities:
- Assessment of the present capacity of coops’ leadership, and preparation of a plan for their capacity building accordingly;
- Assessment of technical skills of community members who can be recruited and trained as technicians to manage the mechanization centers;
- Planning and introduction of training workshops for coop staff and farmers;
- Selection and training of administration staff for record-keeping on members, finances, and inventory management in each cooperative;
- Support each coops’ leadership in the compilation of machinery use data, schedule operation and maintenance for the available machinery, and allocation of equipment for the required field operations to members;
- Plan and oversee the procurement and supply of the necessary inputs required for the efficient operation of each mechanization center.
The duration of this intervention is nine months, which will be divided into two stages. The first stage is expected to last three months and will introduce technical advisory services and establish eight vocational training centers. The second stage will last the remaining six months and will be spent implementing the planned activities listed above. The total budget of this intervention is EUR 2.3 million and an estimated 3,500 farmers will positively benefit from the agricultural mechanization services provided through the mechanization centers. Additionally, around 230 trainees from the intervention’s community will be recruited for training on the use and maintenance of the agricultural machinery.
