Enhancing Sustainable Livelihoods and Housing in Deir-ez-Zor – Phase II
Based on the successes of Phase I, the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) launched Phase II of its Livelihoods intervention, “Enhancing Sustainable Livelihoods and Housing in Deir-ez-Zor”. This intervention aims to improve living and housing conditions through shelter rehabilitation, support small-scale farming (promoting Climate Smart Agriculture) and provide Cash-for-Work (CfW) opportunities, to improve host community members’, internally displaced people’s (IDPs) and returnees’ livelihoods and economic conditions. This would in turn revitalise communities and reintegrate returnees and IDPs by promoting resilience and stability.
Through its activities, the intervention is expected to:
- Improve local community members’ and returnees’/IDPs’ living conditions.
- Promote community resilience.
- Enhance economic stability.
- Increase households’ incomes.
- Improve food security within the targeted communities.
- Empower IDP and returnees’ households.
- Improve households’ access to food.
- Promote sustainability and self-sufficient practices.
- Facilitate the reintegration of returnees/IDPs into their communities.
This will be done by implementing the following activities:
- Conducting shelter repairs and rehabilitation for 1,400 houses.
- Providing in-kind garden kits, and agricultural inputs, for food production at the household level to 1,000 households.
- Providing vegetable hydroponic planting kits to 50 households.
- Providing technical training sessions for individuals on planting, using hydroponic kits and maintaining garden kits.
- Providing CfW opportunities to 3,000 individuals including host community members and IDPs.
This is anticipated to:
- Upgrade housing conditions for conflict-affected households in displacement-prone areas.
- Support small-scale farming productive activities and labour opportunities for vulnerable households.
- Empowering marginalised groups, especially returnees, through inclusive oppoertunities.
- Facilitate the reintegration of returnees into their communities and promote social cohesion.
- Improve households’ food security levels.
