An SRTF Agriculture Project Builds Four Sheds in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Thursday, 22 December 2022 – The SRTF announced completes the building of four open post-frame sheds in four different locations, under its project “Support to Potato Producers in North Aleppo”.

The sheds will be used to store and protect agricultural equipment and machinery, which are used to facilitate the farming and harvesting of potatoes.

Furthermore, the overall aim of the project is to increase the production and improve the quality of potatoes, improve cultivation practices and increase yield, as well as create job opportunities for field workers and graduates in agronomy and agriculture mechanisation. This will in turn help farmers in expanding the cultivated areas, thereby, increasing the availability of potatoes in local markets. Farmers will also receive advisory services and training sessions, including technical guidance, in order to improve production and facilitate the general process.

Engineer Mohammad, who works with the Implementing Entity (IE) told the SRTF: “The sheds are very useful and well-built too. They will benefit potato farmers since they will protect the machinery from bad weather conditions, thereby making them last longer. We are helping those farmers by providing them the service of using the machines at almost no cost. This will reduce the general cost for farmers while also increasing their production and profit. The sheds will secure a good place for the machines, making it easier for us to keep them safe and connect them to other machines when necessary. We thank the SRTF for their help.”

This project will benefit 700 potato farmers and their 5,600 family members directly, over a period of six months (the project’s lifecycle includes another six months for post-delivery monitoring and evaluation). This will increase food security in the region.
