The SRTF Approves Three New Projects under the WASH, Health and Agriculture Sectors
Amman – Wednesday, 20 September 2023 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund’s (SRTF) Management Committee (MC) approved two new recovery projects in the WASH and Health sectors in Northern Aleppo and one stabilisation intervention in the Agriculture sector in Northeast of Syria for a total of EUR 7.47 million, bringing the total number of approved projects to 65 and the budget to EUR 249.86 million.
The newly approved WASH project, “Restoration of Sustainable and Safe Water Access to Six Communities in A Sub-District in Northern Aleppo”, aims to increase people’s access to water by rehabilitating and upgrading water networks and systems, as well as providing short-term Cash-for-Work opportunities, ensuring sustainability and reducing water scarcity. With a budget of EUR 1.89 million, this aims to directly benefit 185,120 individuals in over 37,000 households in host communities and communities with internally displaced people (IDPs).
The new health project, “Support for Health Services in the Northern Aleppo Countryside – Phase III”, aims to expand ambulance response services in the area, continue the provision of health services in one health centre and two hospitals, operate one laboratory as well as maintain an oxygen generator and cover its operational costs. This project aims to benefit 171,931 individuals with a budget of EUR 2.94 million.
As for the agriculture intervention, “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase VII”, it aims to improve living conditions and food security by boosting the production of wheat, barley and vegetables, as well as enhance the livelihoods of members in three farmers’ cooperatives, through the provision of agricultural inputs, agricultural machinery and equipment in addition to training sessions to farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture. With a budget of EUR 2.64 million, this intervention is expected to directly benefit 685 farmers in the targeted areas.
The SRTF’s Director General, Eng. Hani Khabbaz, commented saying: “The recent approval of three projects builds on the SRTF’s achievements and previous successes in key sectors. These endeavours directly respond to the critical conditions prevailing in targeted areas, particularly in the vital sectors of WASH, Agriculture, and Health. To that end, the SRTF remains committed to supporting the operations within these sectors in a sustainable manner, empowering individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and reap long-term benefits.”
