The SRTF Successfully Empowers Healthcare with Solar Power and Clean Water in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor
Northeast Syria – Wednesday, 13 March 2024 – The SRTF announced the successful closure of its Electricity intervention, “Providing Solar Power and Clean Water to Health Centres in Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor”.
Under this intervention, water purification systems and solar systems were installed in 14 and seven (of the 14) health facilities, respectively, to ensure the provision of solar power and clean potable water to the targeted health facilities across Ar-Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, given the increased demand for clean water and reliable electricity sources within the facilities. This has improved the facilities’ capacities, enabling them to treat and serve more patients.
Construction works, including the installation of water storage systems and concrete bases for water tanks, the procurement of equipment, excavation works and the fabrication of solar stands, were also conducted under the intervention, and technical training sessions were provided to the relevant staff members regarding the operation and maintenance of the installed systems.
One male patient told the SRTF: “The water became clean and free of dirt and dust, and the centre is permanently supplied with electricity now, which helped us benefit from good medical services.”
With a budget of around EUR 383,000, this intervention has directly benefitted around 20,200 patients per month, in addition to 403 staff members, over a period of seven months. It has also improved the lives of over 58,000 community members indirectly through the provision of improved health services and sustainable energy solutions.
