The SRTF's Agricultural Support Yields Notable Results in Northeast Syria: Bountiful Wheat Production and Improved Livelihoods in Ar-Raqqa Governorate

Northeast Syria – Sunday, 14 July 2024 – The SRTF is thrilled to announce this year’s average wheat yield of 3.53 MT per hectare (HA) in Northeast Syria, following the end of the harvest season under the intervention, "Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase VII".

A total of 660 farmers cultivated a total of 1,636 HA of land, producing around 5,260 MT of wheat in the targeted areas across Ar-Raqqa Governorate.

This follows the delivery of essential agricultural inputs and equipment, enabling farmers to effectively plant their land, as well as the delivery of extensive training sessions, which allowed farmers to improve their technical expertise.

Moreover, the total harvest produced across all cooperatives that received support from the SRTF, since the launch of the first phase of this intervention in the Northeast of Syria, has amounted to a total of 78,230 MT of wheat, harvested by around 11,000 farmers who cultivated a total of 26,500 HA of land. The market value of this year’s harvest is around USD 24.25 million.

Such efforts have greatly contributed to improving livelihoods and living conditions within the targeted communities, thereby attaining greater food security across the region.

This intervention has a budget of EUR 2.64 million and has directly benefitted 660 farmers over a period of eight months. It has also aided thousands of community members who will continue to benefit from improved food security and the reactivation of the local economy.
