Provision of Sustainable Energy and Clean Water Systems in Northeast Syria

The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) launched the “Provision of Sustainable Energy and Clean Water Systems in Northeast Syria” under the Electricity and Water and Sanitation (WASH) sectors, aiming to mitigate the shortage of electricity and water supplies available in healthcare centres and educational facilities across Northeast Syria.

Through its activities, the intervention is expected to:

  • Enhance the resilience and delivery capacity of healthcare services at health centres.
  • Improve the operational efficiency of educational facilities.
  • Safeguard the required access to electricity and clean water.

This will be done by implementing the following activities:

  • Supplying electricity and clean water to 22 healthcare centres, two hospitals and 37 educational facilities.
  • Introducing three types of solar power generation plants in all facilities, each tailored to serve the different needs of each of the three types of facilities.
  • Installing Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification systems at selected locations. These will be powered by the solar energy systems.
  • Installing two Atmospheric Water Generators (AWGs), powered by the solar energy plant, at the two hospitals.
  • Training three individuals at each facility on the operation and maintenance of the solar power systems, RO water purification systems and AWGs.
  • Providing a one-year supply of essential spare parts for the installed systems.

This is anticipated to:

  • Ensure the health care and educational facilities’ access to reliable supplies of electricity and clean water.
  • Ensure the two hospitals’ access to clean water.

With a total budget of EUR 2.73 million, this intervention is expected to directly benefit around 44,890 individuals and over one million individuals indirectly, over a period of eight months, which includes a two-month inception phase.
