Phase II of The SRTF Agriculture Project Concludes its Activities, Boosting Potato Farmers’ Incomes and Food Security in Northern Aleppo

Türkiye – Thursday, 31 October 2024 The SRTF announced the successful completion of Phase II of its Agriculture project, “Support to Potato Producers in Northern Aleppo ”.   Under this project, various agricultural inputs, equipment and agrochemicals, along with training sessions on Climate Smart Agriculture, were delivered to farmers to enable them to plant and harvest potatoes effectively with the utmost skills and capacity, allowing them to increase their produce and improve its quality.

Furthermore, the availability of increased amounts of high-quality potatoes in local markets enabled farmers to increase their returns, thereby improving their living conditions and enhancing food security within the region.

A female farmer told the SRTF; “The assistance helped me and my family to secure jobs and save money which we used to cover other needs.”

A male farmer told us; “The assistance helped us overcome the burden of purchasing consumable goods and helped us pay off our debts.”

Another male farmer told us; “The seeds and fertilisers we received encouraged us to plant the land and not look for other jobs.”

With a budget of around EUR 2 million, this project has directly benefited 1,000 farmers and their 5,000 family members indirectly, through its 23-month lifecycle. Thousands of internally displaced people residing in surrounding communities will also benefit from the increased availability of potatoes across local markets in the long-run.
