Enhancing the Productivity, Resilience, and Sustainability of Livestock Farming in As-Sweida Rural Communities

Based on the success of a similar of its projects in north of Syria, the SRTF launched the “Enhancing the Productivity, Resilience, and Sustainability of Livestock Farming in As-Sweida Rural Communities” project, which aims to improve livestock owners’ and farmers’ livestock management practices, veterinary practices and compost production while also ensuring sustainable farming practices, through to increase livestock productivity and enhance food security in the area.

Through its activities, the project is expected to:

  • Improve livestock management.
  • Enhance veterinary practices.
  • Improve livestock productivity.
  • Strengthen the local economy, contributing to economic stability and improvement in livelihoods in rural communities.

 

This will be done by implementing the following activities:

  • Providing farmers and livestock breeders capacity building sessions on livestock management, including feeding, disease prevention, breeding and animal welfare.
  • Providing technical training sessions to veterinary technicians, focusing on practical skills and community outreach.
  • Providing farmers with resources and training on compost production and cost-effective eco-friendly composting methods.
  • Providing livestock breeders with livestock, such as sheep and poultry, according to the assessment and local needs, suitable for the local environment and farming practices.
  • Providing farmers and livestock breeders with kits containing essential tools and materials for compost production.

This is anticipated to:

  • Strengthen capacities in livestock management, veterinary practices and compost production, to enhance sustainable farming methods.
  • Improve productivity, food security and resilience by providing livestock and compost inputs, to support sustainable farmer practices.

 

With a total budget of around EUR 159,000 million, this project is expected to benefit 115 individuals directly and 250 individuals indirectly over a period of nine months followed by an additional six months for post-implementation monitoring and evaluation.
